Apply for the Graduating Senior Juror Scholarship

We are very excited to announce that the 2023 scholarship has been awarded to Houston Ratledge!

When asked, “How has and will your Youth Court experience help you in both college and career?” Houston had this to say:

“It’s humbled me and I have realized that I need to be appreciative of what I have and have been given. I need to take advantage of the opportunities, such as this Youth Court scholarship. I’m excited to be able to go to school and further my education. I believe I can help people with my psychiatry outlook and help people who are less fortunate like some of the people who came through the Blount County Youth Court.”

Congratulations again, Houston! We know you are going to do great things.

 

All Blount County Youth Court Scholarship Application Forms and supporting documentation must be postmarked by April 10, 2023. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Awardees will be notified in May by phone and by e-mail. Payment will be made to the student’s financial aid office at the beginning of the fall semester.

The Blount County Youth Court will offer a Two Thousand Dollar ($2,000) scholarship to a high school senior based on the following criteria.

Criteria for selection:

• The student must be a graduating high school senior.
• The student must be a current participant in the Blount County Youth Court program.
• The student must be accepted to a regionally or nationally accredited institution of higher learning, including a vocational or technical school or college.
• The student must complete the Blount County Youth Court’s Scholarship Application Form and provide supporting documentation.

Application package must include the following:

• Blount County Youth Court Scholarship Application Form.
• Official school transcript.
• Two (2) letters of recommendation, mailed separately, or submitted with the application in a sealed envelope signed by the letter writer across the seal, from individuals unrelated to you, preferably who can attest to your involvement with the Blount County Youth Court.

• List of awards, extracurricular and community activities, plus work experience, and years of service on the Blount County Youth Court.
• Copy of school’s acceptance letter, and
• An essay that includes the answers to two (2) questions, not to exceed two (2) pages, doubled spaced.

Essay questions:

1. What impact has your participation in the Blount County Youth Court had on your life?
2. How do you think your involvement in the Blount County Youth Court will affect you in the future?

Notes:

The decisions of the Scholarship Selection Committee are final. Children of members of the Scholarship Selection Committee and the Blount County Youth Court Board of Directors are not eligible. Application packages will be shredded once the awardee and financial aid office has been notified.
